In 2004, The Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) launched a web-based, e-learning platform for professionals called e-oncología. The program strives to expand the boundaries of traditional training and to generate knowledge networks among specialists, teachers and all professionals interested in oncology. e-oncología offers an adaptable curriculum with courses tailored to the specific needs of each country and region.

e-oncología represents a strategic alliance between the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM), the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO), the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), among others. All courses are credited by the CME regulatory system in Spain and in Europe.

To date, more than 17,000 individuals from all over the world have participated in the program. E-oncología enlists the expertise of 200 professionals and has offered 71 courses and more than 2,300 hours of virtual teaching in 8 languages.
