ICO / IARC HPV and Cancer Information Centre

The Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), first in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and now in collaboration with the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), coordinates the HPV Information Centre, which provides HPV-related epidemiological data for each of the 194 WHO member states. The centre is open access and supports global, regional and country-specific decisions on current and novel options for the prevention of cervical cancer. The HPV Information Centre has become an international benchmark for the provision of data on the epidemiology of HPV and related cancers and their prevention.

WHO Cervical Cancer Elimination Campaign

PREC has been actively involved in the development of the WHO Cervical Cancer Elimination Campaign, launched on 17th November 2020. It aims to achieve ‘a world without cervical cancer’ via large-scale implementation of highly effective prevention and control interventions, such as HPV vaccination, screening and treatment, and to make these universally available. This is the first time in history that a campaign has targeted a specific cancer for elimination. Like the elimination campaigns against smallpox or polio, it will become a directive for countries to act upon. Several PREC members are providing intensive scientific and technical support to the international agencies involved.

Mejorsincancer (‘Better without cancer’)
