Alexandra Montoliu Gimenez

Alexandra Montoliu has the bachelor’s degree in Mathematics (Universitat de Barcelona, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, 2002) and has a Master in Statistics and Operations Research,a speciality in Biostatistics and Bioinformatics (Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, 2015). She previously had her degree in Statistics in 2009 (Universitat de Barcelona).

From 2003 to September 2019, she was working as a statistician at the Centre for Epidemiological Studies of Sexually Transmitted Disease and AIDS in Catalonia (CEEISCAT). She was participating in several research projects on infectious diseases. She performed longitudinal studies of the factors related to progression to AIDS or death in HIV-infected patients, the assess the optimal time to initiate highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) and the assess the rates of discontinuation of treatment regimens and their associated factors. She was involved in studies for Epidemiologic Surveillance using sampling methodologies for the collection of data from hard-to-reach populations. She also worked on projects about the use of indicator conditions and behavioural criteria to promote the offer of HIV testing in Primary Care in Catalonia.

Since 2019, she has focused her interests on the epidemiology of HPV and cervical cancer. Currently she is a member of the Infections and Cancer Unit (Cancer Epidemiology Research Programme) team at the Institut Català d’Oncologia (ICO), where is a member of the Health Economics in Cancer Research group (HECR). Her work consists in developing mathematical models of cancer evolution, to perform cost-effectiveness analyses of screening strategies in cancer prevention.
