Research support
Ginesa Albero holds a Statistics degree (Polytechnic University of Catalonia-UPC, 2004) and a PhD in Methodology of Biomedical Research and Public Health (Autonomous University of Barcelona-UAB, 2017).
Since January 2002, she joined the Cancer Epidemiology Research Program (PREC) in the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) as biostatistician. Since then, she has been working on the epidemiology and prevention of HPV infections and related cancers. She coordinated six phase II-III clinical trials of HPV vaccines in females and males at ICO, and she worked on analyses of multinational case-control studies conducted by the International Agency for Research on Cancern (IARC) in the field of HPV and cervical cancer. During her PhD, she participated in a multinational cohort study of the natural history of HPV infections in men (HIM study), evaluating the association between male circumcision and genital HPV infection in men.
Currently she coordinates the HPV Information Centre, HPV INFORMATION CENTRE, a web-based resource led by ICO and IARC that compiles, processes and disseminates published information on HPV infection and HPV-related diseases for each of the 194 WHO member states. The Centre aims to accelerate the development and introduction of HPV prevention strategies to reduce the incidence of cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases worldwide. The Centre has become an international reference for data, monographs (the first monograph was published in 2006, followed by 10 regional reports) and scientific material, as well as an international benchmark for decision making in public health.
Starting in 2007, she is also a member of CIBERESP, a network of 50 multidisciplinary research groups from different universities and institutions focused in the area of epidemiology and public health.
