I am Sara Hermosa Garcia, I hold a degree in Genetics ( Autonomous University of Barcelona UAB, 2018) and a Master in Zoonosis & One Health (Autonomous University of Barcelona UAB, 2019).

Since June to September of 2017, I did several collaborations with researchers at the Vall d'Hebron Institut d'Oncologia (VHIO). I took part in various projects related to colon cancer, especially in the study of Lynch's in the stem cell department.

From October 2020 to April 2021 I worked as a research assistant in the Oncogenetics department at VHIO on two different projects directed by Dr Sara Gutierrez Enriquez (senior scientist) and performed by Joanna Domenech (PhD student). The first project was related to deep intronic mutations in breast cancer patients and aimed to predict whether these variants affect splicing so that we can make a better diagnosis for patients with that variant. The second project aimed to sequence the whole cDNA of families BRCA negatives.

In June 2022, I joined the Cancer Epidemiology Research Program (PREC) of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO/IDIBELL), where I started my PhD program carriyng out a research into the relationship of obesity and Multiple Myeloma.

Currently the main objective of my research is focused on quantify the body composition at the abdominal levels using routinely acquired PET/CT images and examine the association between PET/CT body composition data, measured anthropometric data, physical activity, bone diseases (e.g. fractures) and diet with MM clinical outcomes (time to progressive disease based on the International Myeloma Working group).
